The Scandalous Life of Jesus & New Spoken Word Album “Goodbye Religion”
Because of the historical impact of the life and ministry of Jesus’, his life’s work was from a number of perspectives on scandal after another.
Case in point, the lowly birth. His mother Mary a teenage mom and a virgin…seriously? The |narrative of the immaculate conception redefines “crisis pregnancy.”
Then let’s get into his public ministry. He was “dormant” as far as being outside of the public eye for the first thirty years of his life. Scripture does not have many references to his childhood or teenage years, save for the fact we know he impressed many religious leaders in the temple at a young age (Luke 2:46-50).
Jesus performed many miracles. From turning water into wine to healing a man born blind. The immediate curing of ten people who were plagued by leprosy. The raising of Lazarus from the dead, the feeding of thousands with a few fish and a few loaves of bread provided by a young boy. Not to mention that fact that Peter walked on water. The religious leaders of the day could not explain these miracles. And because they could not understand it, they could not let it stand. They had to make an example of this man who dines with sinners and performs works of wonder.
They asked themselves- “Who Exactly who is this man? And where does he derive such mysterious and yet irrefutable powers?”
However the biggest scandal of Jesus’ life isn’t what he did. It’s is what he said…about himself.
“Very truly, I tell you, anyone who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come under judgment, but has passed from death to life.” John 5:24
